The Life And Death Of Julius Caesar free essay sample

Essay, Research Paper The Life And Death of Gaius Julius Caesar In my sentiment, no other adult male in the history of the universe symbolizes military and political strength every bit much as Julius Caesar does. Caesar was born on July 12, 100 BC in Rome, Italy ( Encarta 2000 ) . His male parent belonged to the esteemed Julian kin ( Internet Explorer ) His uncle by matrimony was Gaius Marius, leader of the Populares which supported agricultural reform and opposed the Optimates ( Comptons Encyclopedia ) . Marius saw to it that Julius Caesar was appointed flamen dialis which is a antediluvian priesthood with no power. Caesar # 8217 ; s matrimony in 84 BC to Cornelia, the girl of Marius # 8217 ; s associate was a political Match ( Lindsay Salo ) . When Lucius Cornelius Sulla, Marius # 8217 ; s enemy and leader of the Optimates, was made dictator in 82 BC, he issued a list of enemies to be executed. Caesar was non harmed but he was ordered by Sulla to disassociate Cornelia. This was the beginning of an amazing military calling. He became 2nd in bid of the state Asia ( Turkey ) ( Lindsay Salo ) . In two old ages he proved his courage and superior accomplishments at weaponries. After these old ages and Sulla # 8217 ; s surrender in 78 BC, Julius decided to return to Rome. There he served as an officer in Crassus # 8217 ; s ground forces against Spartacus, Caesar climbed steadily in the authorities by functioning as an functionary in many states ( Internet Explorer ) . After the decease of his married woman Cornelia, Julius remarried a affluent married woman and allied with Crassus, who was the richest adult male in Rome at the clip ( Internet Explorer ) . Their opposition was Pompeius Magnus ( the Great ) . Caesar wanted to go portion of the consulate. The consulate was a governmental place where two consuls, nominated each twelvemonth, held the power of the province. Caesar was trusting that he and Crassus would go the powerful consuls of the Roman Empire. However, the Senate tried to halt his attempts by opposing Crassus, Pompeius and Caesar against each other. Caesar noticed this and did something believed impossible. Julius created an confederation among himself, Crassus, and Pompeius ( Encarta 2000 ) . The confederation made it possible for them all to portion power. This three manner consulship was called a Triumvirate ( Internet Explorer ) . This understanding dictated the Roman policy for the following decennary. They shared all offices between them and their followings and that # 8217 ; s the manner Caesar became Governor of Gaul Transalpinia ( Encarta 2000 ) . He had three hosts ( 15,000 work forces ) under his bid. Julius Caesar so marched into Celtic Gaul, defeated the Helvetii, and forced them to return to their place ( Encarta 200 ) . Following, he crushed Germanic forces under Ariovistus and farther proved his excellent leading. Julius Caesar now turned his head wholly on political relations. In 51 BC, while still contending some immune kins, he proposed to the Senate to widen his governor-ship for another two old ages, which allowed him to run for consul in the twelvemonth 48 BC ( A consul could merely go consul once more after 10 old ages ) . He said that he earned it based on his presentations in Gaul and referred to Pompeius whose governor ship in Spain had been extended the twelvemonth earlier. But the senate hesitated. In the twelvemonth 50 BC, Caesar still tried to widen his governor ship, but to guarantee the trueness of his ground forces he doubled their wage. Other immense amounts went into public financess and the creative activity of his ain Ag coins: # 8220 ; CAE # 8221 ; on one side and # 8220 ; SAR # 8221 ; on the other, and a kneeling Vercingetorix before him ( Encarta 2000 ) . The two consuls of 50 BC were hostile to him, but he managed to corrupt one of them. This caused a deadlock in the Senate. Then, tardily in the autumn, the senate decide that Caesar and Pompeius were to release control of their ground forcess and states. Caesar # 8217 ; s followings tried to blackball it, but the hostile consul ordered Pompeius to support the Republic with two Hosts at Capua and the authorization to raise more. Caesar thereupon gathered his ain ground forcess and went south. Both commanding officers were still on speech production footings and Caesar made another proposal. The proposal was that he would release control of all but two of his hosts and The state of Cisalpine Gaul ( the portion of Gaul lying in Italy ) . Pompeius agreed, but the senate ordered him to wait. Caesar so made an ultimatum. Julius summed up his services to the province and demanded that he could maintain his hosts and states till he was elected consul. In January 49 BC Mark Anthony, Caesar # 8217 ; s trusted lieutenant, demanded that the ultimatum he read aloud in the senate. Although the bulk would hold swayed for peace, the oppositions of Caesar would let no via medias and bullied all the scared senators that Caesar should disband his ground forcess or be declared enemy of the province. The Senate so stripped Julius of all his offices and the Republic declared war on him. Julius Caesar # 8217 ; s reaction to this was on January 11. He led his individual host, which he had assembled, across the span over a little watercourse that marked the boundary between his state and the Roman fatherland. This topographic point was the Rubicon. Pompeius tried to halt Caesar, but all was in vain. No 1 dared to stand up against Caesar # 8217 ; s superior veteran soldiers. The senate and Pompeius were now panic stricken and left Italy to head toward Albania, without taking the exchequer with them. Once in Rome, Caesar wasted no clip. Against no effectual resistance, he assembled a stopgap senate, took control of the authorities and broke unfastened the exchequer. Mark Anthony was put in charge of the Italian hosts and Caesar himself went to the independent metropolis of Massilia. He could non capture the metropolis, but he went to Spain and crushed Pompeius followings. When Caesar returned to Massilia, he was clement and did non plunder the metropolis, but it was no longer independent. He returned to Rome as a master, but at that place was still Pompeius and the old senate. Pompeius himself had raised a monolithic ground forces in Macedonia. Caesar lacked a navy and was forced to set down in Yugoslavia with merely 20,000 work forces ( 7 under powered hosts ) . Although Julius was mostly outnumbered, he and Mark Anthony were winning over Pompeius. What happened was really uneven. Queerly Pompeius withdrew his ground forces and Caesar remarked # 8220 ; Today the enemy would hold won, if they had a commanding officer who was a winner. # 8221 ; Caesar now chased after Pompeius towards Pharsalus. Here Caesar # 8217 ; s 32,000 faced Pompeius 43,000. It was traveling to be the largest struggle of the civil war over the Roman Empire. On a forenoon in early August both ground forcess attacked. Caesar # 8217 ; s left and halfway held strong, while his right withdrew. Pompeius, detecting Caesar # 8217 ; s weak side headed his horse in the spread, but Caesar intelligently sent in his last modesty, and Pompeius lines merely collapsed. Nineteen months after the crossing of the Rubico Caesar became dictator and maestro of the Roman Empire. The defeated Pompeius now fled to Egypt but was killed one time there by his ain work forces ( Encarta 2000 ) . Although he had to stamp out several rebellions, in 46 BC Caesar eventually could present four Triumph parades for his triumphs. Caesar is believed to hold been merely 26 old ages old at the clip. Caesar was now the swayer of the Roman Empire and the senate declared him dictator for life. As a swayer, Caesar instituted assorted reforms. In states, he eliminated the extremely corrupt revenue enhancement system, extended Roman citizenship, and sponsored settlements of veterans. Besides Caesar # 8217 ; s reform of the calendar gave Rome a rational agencies of recording clip which was really of import ( Encarta 2000 ) . However, a figure of senatorial households felt that Caesar threatened their place. Thus, on the 6th of March 44 BC, the so called Idess of March, Caesar was murdered by Marcus Brutus, Gaius Cassius, and his two trusted commanding officers of his old hosts Decimus Brutus and Gaius Trebonius ( Encarta 2000 ) . Caesar was stabbed 23 times. While the blood poured out of his hurt organic structure the great dictator of Rome mutely pulled his toga over his caput and fell at the pes of a statue of Pompeius ( Internet Explorer ) . In decision, Julius Caesar was likely the greatest adult male of his clip and the most successful. It was Caesar who ended the Roman democracy and paved the manner for the ulterior Roman emperors ( Encarta 2000 ) . From his early life to his decease no other adult male accomplished every bit much as he did. Julius Caesar in my sentiment was the greatest soldier and dictator of all clip. An Evaluation of the Personalisation Agenda and the effect on Adults Literature review

An Evaluation of the Personalisation Agenda and the effect on Adults with Learning Disabilities - Literature review Example The author of the essay "An Evaluation of the Personalisation Agenda and the Effect on Adults with Learning Disabilities" begins with that in order to understand personalisation, it is important to understand that there are two different models of disability that we are currently recognizing. The medical model of disability concentrates on the idea that if an individual's body is 'fixed' that they will be able to better fit into society. The medical model does not benefit the individual because there are many conditions that an individual is born with that cannot be 'fixed' in this way. The social model of disability is a more accurate depiction of the person with disability because it is concerned with the barriers that are in place to prevent a person with disabilities to access society. These barriers can be due to the environment, which keeps people from being able to access buildings and services because of physical barriers. The barrier can be due to people's attitudes when the y stereotype certain abilities with people or discriminate against them. The barrier can also be due to organizations with inflexible policies, practices or procedures that exclude people with disabilities (Office for Disability Issues 2010). The Personalisation Agenda leans more towards the social model of disability because it emphasizes the challenges and/or barriers for people with disabilities. It was created in order to eliminate some of the barriers that individuals currently are exposed to when attempting to access services. 2. The Problem for Adults with Learning Disabilities According to the Learning Disability Coalition (2010) it is important for people with learning disabilities to have the same choices for care as other people have who do not have disabilities. This is one of the provisions that this new legislation has created. The challenge is that although this legislation has gone through and is attempting to be enforced, there are still challenges for some agencies in getting the resources needed for people with l

Impact of the Economic Environment on a Success of New Enterprise in a Essay

Impact of the Economic Environment on a Success of New Enterprise in a Country - Essay Example This essay outlines the significance of correct appraisal of the international marketing environment for the successful conduct of a business in different countries in the age of globalization. Importance of healthy economic environment is considered in the essay. International marketing is faced with a variety of challenges as it is requires great strategies to achieve compatibility between different countries. This is in terms of the different needs of people in the different countries, as well as their regional differences. Different studies have shown that most international companies do not put into consideration this aspect of a country’s economy when coming up with their strategies. Such international companies still register success in their international markets, having disregarded the aspect of economic environment. This is a proof that economic environment is not the most important consideration in international marketing, as there are more important aspects. Of all the factors to be considered in appraising for international marketing, culture stands out as the most important factor. International marketing is a way of bridging between various countries and a way of profit creation. Culture is important in bridging between countries. However, economic factors also play an important role in determining the purchasing power and decisions of consumers in a country. This way, wealthy countries are the best platforms for international marketing as the purchasing power of their consumers is high. ... effective marketing strategies to counter this socio-cultural influence among countries, which believe that fitness is only important for the rich professionals and not the common man. By identifying themselves as alternatives to health, the fitness companies have managed to get an entrance into some of the countries that have this psychological attitude towards fitness. In addition, the McDonald’s Company has registered great success in different countries because of its cultural awareness in host countries. Mainly, this company adjusts its menus and diets to suit the dietary need and cultures of the people in the host countries (Francis, 2010). Apart from culture, the economic environment of countries is an important aspect for effective international marketing. This comprises a country’s GNP. GDP, as well as per capita income. These are essential in determining the power of consumer buying in a country. If these are high, it means the consumer buying power is also hi gh. Business executives interested in international marketing can therefore, use these to determine the level of a country’s economic environment, as well as its market profitability (Kaynak, 1991). The economy of a country is a great influence in international marketing, as this comprises elements that are indicators of the height of market profitability in countries. It is therefore certain that the economic environment of a country is paramount in international marketing, given the important information it provides on wealth, consumer buying power, and income level, which are important market indicators (Muhlbacher, Leihs, & Dahringer, 2006). However, different studies have shown that most international companies do not put into consideration this aspect of a country’s economy when coming up

Essay question Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1750 words

Question - Essay Example iThe argument is however based on the fact that neoclassical economists claims or rather emphasize smith’s â€Å"invisible hand† while classical economists on the other hand think that smith clearly stipulates his programme for promoting the â€Å"Wealth of Nations† in the first sentence of his work. Smith uses the phrase â€Å"the invisible hand† in both theories under different context and each having a different meaning. Therefore, different interpretations of the phrase can be regarded as the source of conflicting ideas between classical and neoclassical economists. Moreover, various economists have advance theories that are in line with smith’s theory of wealth of a nation or contradicting theories thus economic policies are more of a battle field between neoclassical economists and classical economist who concurred with smith’s theory of an inquiry into the nature and the cause of wealth of a nation. Adam Smith’s work, â€Å"Wealth of Nations† is regarded as the perfecto of the theory of moral sentiments since it targets the problems of how people express their self-interests and their morality. He argued that a pin factory that employs division of labor is likely to produce thousands of pins more than a pin factory that each individual worker attempts to produce his or her own pin. Therefore he advocated for specialization and division of labor in production for efficiency. Adam Smith also emphasized on the importance of flexibility during transition from one phase of life to the other by developing institutions that are fit for that phase; and this therefore illustrates self-interest and morality in the society. Smith described people’s economic behavior as individuals who are guided by an â€Å"invisible hand†. He argued that production of high priced products in relation to production cost would induce individual production of this product

Descartes And Locke: The Matrix

Descartes And Locke: The Matrix Computer programmer Thomas A. Anderson leads a secret life as a hacker under the pseudonym Neo and wishes to learn the answer to the question What is the Matrix? The mysterious underground hacker offers him the opportunity to learn the truth about the Matrix. Morpheus offers Neo an option between two pills: A blue pill which would get him back in his original time, and a red pill that would let him to find the truth he is looking for. Neo chooses the red pill. Morpheus tells Neo that right now is the year of 2199 not 20th century, and that people have a war with smart robots that were made by people created in the 21st century. Morpheus thinks that Neo is that the One. He thinks that Neo will be able to put the war the end with his unlimited power. Neo is educated as a tough fighter. An opening in the back of Neos skull connects him directly to the Matrix. All the necessary knowledge and information is transferred through it. Morpheus is sure that once Neo fully gets his own power, t he Agents will be out of competition for him. Then they find out that they were revealed by their colleague, who had chosen to live in the Matrix not the actual world, and had made a deal with the Agents to give them Morpheus in exchange for a permanent come back to the Matrix. Morpheus is jailed. Neo and Trinity come back to the Matrix and try to get him out of the prison. Agent Smith kills Neo. In the actual life, Trinity says softly to Neos body what the Oracle had said to her: that she would get the true feelings of love with the One. She doesnt want to believe that he is dead and kisses him. Neos heart started beating again, hes alive; the Agents fire at him, but he moves his hand up and stops their bullets in mid-air. Then Neo destroys him. At the end he promises to show the imprisoned people a true life. Philosophy is concentrated on investigation of truths. In the movie, the investigation for the truth was about our own being. In this movie thoughts of Descartes and Locke were often used. Neo symbolized Descartes. He doubts all the things. This movie stressed the use of machinery as the course of action for humans. Descartes believed that all moves were of mechanical origin, but the spirit cannot be restricted. One of the events was a combat between Neo and Morpheus in a kung fu session. Neo is thought to be a super fighter. Initially he fails because he tries to use his brainpower to control his moves. Then he understands that the mechanism is guiding him not his brainpower. He thoughts that the human is an ideal computerized thing. Throughout the movie, many references were made to the idea of senses. It is believed by every human that to know reality is to experience through your taste, smell, touch, hear, and see. Locke believed that this was true. There is nothing in the mind except what was first in the senses. Locke believed our mind is an empty slate. This idea parallels to the ideas in the Matrix about the mind being an empty room. Locke, though, insists that when we begin to use our senses we start to have ideas. How are we to know that our senses are not programmed? There is no correct answer. No one knows. Locke does state that the mind at birth is the blank slate. In the movie, Neo was reborn into reality. He had wires and cords to machines. When they released them, he had no control over anything. He had no understanding. The world was new to him. Neo eventually learned everything again. He was taught through computers, though, he never used his senses. Locke feels that the connection of the mind an d soul is through them. You can never appreciate(http://www.solidpapers.com/collegepapers/Philosophy/11034.htm) life fully without all the senses. Locke explains that experience is twofold: external and internal. ( Modern Philosophy The Philosophy of John Locke, 2010, June 1 http://www.rafed.net/en/index.php?option=com_contentview=articleid=3324%3Amodern-philosophycatid=231Itemid=973limitstart=16 ) External experience, called sensation, gives us ideas of supposed external objects, such as color, sound, extension, motion. etc. Locke says supposed objects, since their existence has not been proved. Internal experience, called reflection, makes us understand the operation of the spirit on the objects of sensation, such as knowing, doubting, believing and so forth.(Philosophy of John Locke, 2006, December 30, http://themartinnews.blogspot.com/2006/12/philosophy-of-john-locke.html) In regard to the ideas furnished by sensation, it is necessary to distinguish the primary qualities (solidity, extension, figure, number, motion, etc.), which are objective, from the secondary qualities (color, sounds, etc.), which are subjective in their effect and objective in their cause. In other words the secondary qualities are powers for producing various sensations in us.(Philosophy of John Locke, 2006, December 30, http://themartinnews.blogspot.com/2006/12/philosophy-of-john-locke.html) For Locke, sensation and reflection are classified as simple and complex, according to whether they are irreducible elements, such as whiteness, rotundity, or reducible to more simple elements. Thus the idea of an apple is complex because it is a combination of the simple ideas of color, rotundity, taste, and so forth. (Stanford Encyclopedia of Philosophy, John Locke, 2001, September 2 http://plato.stanford.edu/entries/locke) I agree with Locke that our experience is separated into external and internal ones.

UNDERSTANDIN OIL :: essays research papers

The brutal attacks/bombings this week in New York, and Washington D.C., along with threats of attacks there and elsewhere in the country have changed our times forever. While the mass media concentrates on the details of the destruction, and the blanketed words of politicians, I will attempt to understand and explain the events from the fence. BOMBING AND BEING BOMBED ARE THE SAME THINGS ON DIFFERENT SIDES OF THE FENCE. Terror is not a spontaneous human action without credence. People just don’t hijack planes and commit harikari (suicide) without any weight of thought to the action. No one in the media seems to ask WHY DID THESE PEOPLE DO THIS HORRIFIC ACT OF VIOLENCE AND DESTRUCTION? To be able to understand the answer to this, we must first look at our U.S. Mideast Policy. During most of the 20th century, U.S. businesses have worked on attaining oil rights and concessions from countries in the Middle East and Eastern Europe. After WWI, secret back door deals by our State Dept. yielded oil rights from then defeated Turkey to fields in what is now Iraq and Saudi Arabia, in return for looking the other way at a crime against humanity, the Genocide of the Armenians by the Turks. Oil profits have been the motivating factors behind many attempts at counterinsurgency of democratic regimes by the CIA and the U.S in the Middle East (such as Iran in the 1950s, where the Shah replaced the Prime Minister who refused to give up oil rights to the U.S., and since the people couldn’t deal with the Shah, an extremist government headed by the Ayatollah Khomeini ultimately prevailed). During the Iran-Iraq war, America supplied both sides with weapons and advice. These are n ot the actions of a rich superpower wanting peace. Let’s not forget that Saddam Hussein, before being America’s vision of the Anti-Christ, was a close ally of the U.S., and the CIA. So what was the firm belief system of consecutive American administrations that caused all this to occur ? PEACE IN THE MIDDLE EAST WILL LEAD TO HIGHER OIL AND GASOLINE PRICES. Let’s not also forget the power of the Arms industry, disguised as defense, that still sells billions of dollars of weapons to the area. Therefore it has not been in the short-term economic interest of the U.S. to foster Peace in the Middle East. Using the above reasoning, the U.
